The Effects of Sun on the Eyes

Hot weather, stronger sun, sun bathing, swimming pools, air conditioning and dry atmospheres are all factors that can adversely affect the eye and cause vision problems.

The summer is a time when we really do want to look our best as we look forward to a holiday in the sun or weekends away.

It is at times like this that we are more likely to meet new faces and make new friends so watery, bloodshot eyes must be avoided if possible.

UV Radiation from the sun can trigger the onset of cataracts. It is a common misconception that cataracts are solely age related.

This is not so. Cataracts can occur at any age. Sunlight reflected from the surface of water or other reflective medium can cause conjunctivitis and keratitis.

The principle symptoms of conjunctivitis, sometimes known as pinkeye, are an intense itchiness and gritty feeling in the eye with accompanying redness, watery discharge and runny nose.

Keratitis is a term used to define a wide variety of painful corneal infections, irritations and inflammations
and it is important to obtain medical diagnosis and treatment at the earliest opportunity as delay can lead to corneal scarring which has vision implications.

Other causes of conjunctivitis and keratitis are lack of hygiene. In hot summer weather bugs of all sorts multiply faster so keep clean and in particular wash hands frequently.

Take these simple precautions seriously during the summer and you will limit the possibility of suffering from unsightly eyes and help to prevent the onset of sun related vision problems.

Avoid looking towards the sun, the solar rays can cause complete and at any age. permanent loss of sight. Wear sunglasses with good quality lenses. The lenses are the most important so do not be tempted to buy sunglasses just because the design is fashionable and suits you – check out the lenses.

The better lens colors are brown grey or green and preferably avoid very dark and very light colored lenses. Air Conditioning.

Air Conditioning Avoid continuous exposure to vents, as this will cause the surface of the eye to dry out.

To keep the eyes clear, sparkling and healthy it is essential that the surface stays naturally irrigated at all times.

If your eyes begin to feel dry blink rapidly a few times and this should help regulate the natural moisturizing effect.

Blinking is good in chlorinated swimming pools. It is best to always use goggles when swimming in a pool, as chlorine is an irritant that affects the eyes and too much exposure can be a cause of conjunctivitis or keratitis.

Even if you don’t immerse your head under the water, chlorine fumes are above the surface and will cause eye redness after a time and we do want to look our best don’t we?

Dust particles and pollen are a hazard of the summer months and can provoke or accentuate allergies that, sadly, in virtually every case have an effect on the eyes.

Try close fitting wrap around sunglasses to keep as much of the dust and pollen out and don’t forget to check the lenses for quality. Controlling the allergy with medication and keeping the dust out can allow your eyes to retain their natural beauty and prevent ugly redness and watering.

Summer is to enjoy and to get that feel good factor. The best parties and opportunities to meet new people seem to occur in summer. When the sun is out we feel and look healthier.

Summer is a time for optimism.

We spend more time out doors, the days are longer, and the flowers are at their best.

This is the time of the year when we are recharging our batteries and our bodies are preparing for the colder and sunless months ahead.

Don’t let red sore eyes diminish any of the pleasures you can get from summer, be wise and take care of your most precious asset and stay looking good.

NAIL ART IDEAS

If you thought you have heard everything about nail art then you need to read this article. Nail art is going all the more trendy. You can glue dried flowers, beads or a piece of your favorite fabric on to your nails.
These ideas not only provide elegance to your nails but also strengthen, repair and lengthen the nails. The whole process is not time consuming and does not require professional help. This piece of art remains intact for up to 4 - 6 weeks.

So gear up and put your creativity to work on the canvas of your nails?

Step By Step Process
1. Outline the shape of your nails on a paper leaving the outer edge longer than the actual size.
2. Now place these shapes on the fabric you have chosen and cut them out.
3. Wash your hands and pad them dry.
4. Apply a cost of adhesive agent to the nails or if the adhesive is not available then a thick coat of a transparent nail polish will also work.
5. Now place the cut out fabric pieces on the nails polished with the adhesive before it dries up.
6. Smoothen out the creases and press lightly and let it dry.
7. When it dries completely with the help of a scissors cut the extra fabric and give shape to the nails.
8. Finally apply a coat of the transparent nail polish and we are done.

How To Select The Fabric
1. Silk:
It is very popular and stylish. It is very fine and has a strong weave. It gives the finish of a French polish.

2. Linen: It is much thicker than silk. It stays opaque even after the adhesive is applied. Remember to apply a layer of nail polish colored or transparent on it.

3. Organza:
It is stiff yet light so it is easy to cut and shape. It stays on for days without needing to be touched up.

Georgette, chiffon or cotton or any fabric can be used. Only thing to be kept in mind is that it should not limp or hang lose.

Choosing The Color And Design
Gone are the days of baby pinks and conservative colors. Today gold, red, green and blue are in. Cyber colors and textures are taking over. The secret here is to match colors and designs with your outfit. If you are wearing club wear type, splash out with floral textures. You can also try gold, green for an earthly feel. Do not forget the tribal and animal prints.

ACNE SKIN CARE

Acne is a curable disorder that is caused by the over activeness of the sebaceous glands. Due to this, excess oil is secreted which accumulates in the oil sac, filling in the pores and hence clogging them. When the pores cannot hold any longer, the oil oozes out, this way, the pores expand and more oil gets hardened in these pores and when the tip is exposed to air, it oxidizes and gets dark, resulting in the formation of a blackhead. Primary acne lesion is infact a blackhead. So blackheads should be prevented since their neglect irritates the surrounding skin tissues resulting in inflammation, pimples and acne.

Types of Acne
Acne can be of 3 types:
Mild: When tiny heads of pimples appear on the cheeks and forehead.
Severe: Reddish pimples take time to normalize and heal.
Critical: Inflammatory pus-filled pimples leave scars.

Common features of Acne:
Excessive oiliness of the skin.
Whiteheads
Blackheads
Large Pores
Little bumps under the skin

Treatment of Acne

Step 1:
Cleaning:
Clean the face with medicated soap. Always clean your face with water after coming home from outside.

Step 2:
Toning:
Put some astringent on a cotton pad and wipe your face with it. You can buy astringent from the market or you can use a homemade astringent.

Step 3:
Conditioning:
Use antiseptic face oil. They are antibacterial and non oily. Apply 2 drops of lemon essential oil mixed in a teaspoonful of rose water.

FACTORS
There are several other factors that are associated with acne.

Dandruff:
It not only causes acne but also aggravates the condition so it should not be ignored and should be well treated, with appropriate medications and antiseptics.
Diet:
One should avoid eating too much fried and spicy food. Avoid eating sweets, ice cream and also seafood like lobsters and also the red meat. Instead go for fresh fruits, lean meat, and yoghurt and make it a habit to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily as this enhances the bowel movement and prevents constipation.
Emotional state
is equally important as emotional stress aggravates an acne condition by enhancing the oil gland activity. This is especially true with the teenagers who face several adjustment problems. During the menopause and the pre-menopausal stage, women go through a period of stress and emotional tensions. This aggravates the acne condition.

True Beauty Should Include Your Hands And Nails

The anti-aging industry is booming as more and more aging men and women are getting concerned about extending their youth and maintaining their beauty. However, many people have put their anti-aging efforts primarily on the care of their faces and necks. But aside from your face and neck, other parts of the body that can reveal your true age if not cared for properly are your hands. Thus, you should never forget to include your hands and nails in your efforts to slowdown aging.

Here are some tips you need to know in maintaining beautiful hands and nails:

Protect Your Hands From The Sun

If you think that your face and neck are the only parts of your body that you need to shield from the sun, you are making a big mistake. Your hands are also prone to developing sunspots, wrinkles, skin discolorations and brown spots due to frequent exposure to the harsh ultraviolet rays from the sun.

Before you step outside, especially during noontime, be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen or sun block. Make sure that the sun protection factor, or what is commonly known as SPF, is of a high number. If you want vitamin D from the sun, you must limit your sun exposure during the day and preferably only between 7AM to 9 AM. You also need to remember to put on sunscreen when you are driving your car.

Wear Gloves

Many people forget to wear protection when they are washing their clothes or using harsh ingredients, such as strong detergents, bleach and other chemicals. Some ingredients can instantly burn your skin or cause development of rashes, while others can make your skin dry. To prevent such chemicals from further damaging your hands, be sure to wear gloves when you are handling them.

Use Special Hand Cream

There are virtually thousands of hand products in the market so you will not have any difficulty in finding a lotion or cream that is specifically designed to make the skin on your hands smooth and soft. It is advisable to choose a product that is not greasy and one that can protect your hand for a longer time.

You should remember to put a hand cream after you wash your hands. No matter how much lotion you put in the morning and night, if you frequently wash your hands during the day, you might still end up having dry and wrinkled hands and palms.

Exfoliate Regularly

Any part of your body that is covered with skin should undergo exfoliation every once in a while to slough off dead skin cells. One of the reasons why your skin may be rough is because you do not exfoliate and scrub off dead cells regularly. You can use a body scrub with tiny beads or a loofah to exfoliate.

Be Mindful Of Your Soap

Most hand wash or soaps contain anti-bacterial ingredients and other chemicals that may be harsh on your skin. If you want to prevent aging, you need to find a hand soap that contains moisturizer. There are many in the market that not only give you full protection against germs, but also take care of your skin.

Mind Your Nails

Beautiful hands include well-kept and clean nails. Hence, you should also use products that take care of your nails and cuticles. Discolored nails can make your hands look older than they really are.

If you are having a manicure in a salon, be sure to check if the tools that they are going to use on you are sanitized. You can catch an infection if the nail-cleaning tools used are not clean and sanitized.

One nail problem that you need to treat immediately is nail fungus. This kind of infection does not only make your nails discolored and brittle, it can sometimes cause foul-smelling odor.

How to Apply Highlighter?

How can one look stunning despite all the makeup you have and the wonderful looks and clothes to complement it? That’s easy: maybe in your makeup ritual, you forgot to use highlighter—that’s what can make you look stunning.

Highlighters let you reflect light, and if applied well they can highlight that feature of your face by lending some shine to it that is most flattering to you. But for this, you need to apply it well.

How it is Done?
First, see that your highlighter pencil has a sharp point so that you can get a fine line. To draw attention to your eyes, draw a line onto the skin in short sketchy lines so that you get a soft look. For an intense look, use a heavy hand and give it a layered look. Do you want a smudged effect? Using a smudger sponge brush or your finger, blend lightly and use either as liner or shadow.

Highlighter Tips:

Wide-set eyes: Use highlight looks wonderful when placed in the middle of the creases of the eyes and then given a smudged look.
Close-set eyes: Draw a line along the upper eyelash line. Skip one third of the eye, then blending outward, create an illusion of wide-set eyes.
Puffy lids: Don’t highlight the lids as this could give them a raised effect. Instead, highlight the area just below the arch of the eyebrow to give it a balanced look.
Small lids: Use highlighter across the entire upper lid. This will attract the light from all directions and give a fuller look to the lids.
Flat lids: To give a sense of dimension to your eyes, blend in highlighter in an upward stroke, going toward the brow bone. If your eyes have no visible crease, they could look large and awesome if you highlight the inner third of the eye. So, take care.
Dark spots: To cover dark spots, draw over those areas and pat with your finger to blend in the highlighter. With the warmth of your finger, the color of your highlighter will diffuse effectively. Once this is done, apply a light layer of foundation over it.
Glitter: If your highlighter also contains glitter, this is really outrageous because the glitter pieces can be seen. They may be perfect for going to the disco or late night parties. You can add glitter highlight not just to your lids but to the centre of the lips, and a dash on the cheekbones.
Shimmer: This is quite like glitter, but in a muted form. Here, the shimmer pieces, though visible, are much smaller which gives you a definite sparkle.
Quite obviously, highlighter does a good job of making heads turn in your direction. If that’s the result, well why not go ahead and slap on some highlighter—but deftly and subtly.

Natural Look

Putting on makeup can be a daunting task for women who are not really adept at the art of makeup and are not familiar with the right techniques and with picking the right colors for their skin tone and eye color. Common fears include choosing the wrong colors for the skin or colors that do not match the outfit, putting on too little or too much, or botching the makeup altogether. Instead of putting on makeup, there are women who opt for just the ordinary face powder or talcum powder and a dash of lipstick (which may or may not be the right color for their lips either), and then they are done.

Makeup is supposed to enhance the features of our face rather than to cover it, and nothing is more alluring than what is known as the natural look. For those who do not know much about makeup, or know nothing at all, achieving the natural look is pretty easy. The key to doing it is matching the color of your foundation with the tones of your skin, as well as using shades that go well with the undertones of your skin.

A quick tip: when buying foundation, test the match of the product with your skin tone by applying it against your jaw line and letting it on your face for a few minutes. Go ahead and see how it looks like in daylight, rather than in artificial light to see how well it goes with your skin. The perfect foundation for you blends well with the color of your skin, so much that it is hardly noticeable.

If your skin has beige tones
If your skin has beige tones with a touch of peach or pink, the colors you should go for are shades of peach, pink and apricot for your lips and cheeks. Cover up whatever blemishes you have on your skin with a concealer before applying the foundation, and then dust the foundation off with matching loose powder. Make sure that your foundation has SPF because skin like yours burns easily under the sun. Also, try not to put on too much makeup on your face because too much will look harsh on your skin and make you look older. Finish off with a shimmering peach or pink lip gloss.

If your skin has olive tones
If your skin has olive tones, the best way to go is with foundation with warm colors like golden brown. Skin with olive tones is also generally oilier than most, so try to stay away from foundation with shimmer in it to reduce the shine. For a sun-kissed look, apply a touch of bronzer on the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and a little on your forehead. For your lips, outline it with a nude-colored lip pencil, and then apply clear gloss.

If your skin has yellow tones
If your skin has yellow tones, stay away from ivory or pink for your foundation and stick to warmer hues with a yellow base. Also, avoid using powder foundations; yellow-toned skin tends to get dry and flaky, and so powder foundations will only emphasize this unnecessarily. Finish with a light cream blush, colored pink, on the apples of your cheeks, and a light pink gloss for your lips.

To get a smoother finish on your foundation, apply moisturizer on your skin first as a base. Remember to put on only the right amount of moisturizer and dab off any excess with tissue. Too little moisturizer will make it hard for the foundation to blend, and too much will make your makeup run off your skin.

Bindi Makeup Tips

Think India! Think Indian woman! With the traditional red dot on her forehead, this is one exotic beauty whose charms are legendary and the bindi is a very vital part of the makeup routine of the majority of Indian women. It is a fascinating, visually appealing and evolving part of fashion and beauty in the Indian context today.

Bindi Makeup
Madonna is one celebrity that brought the bindi recognition and helped make a style statement of it. While others of her like Boy George, sported the ‘tilak’ –an elongated version in a popular music video, the Hindu male counterparts in India are also not averse to it on religious or festive occasions.

Colors and Shapes
The little red dot has evolved into multi-colored, ornamental decorations today with the advent of skin-friendly adhesive as opposed to the vermilion powder that was used some fifty odd years ago. Not challenged dimensionally, bindi makeup has immense scope as round, oblong, square, heart-shaped, abstract and diamond shaped bindi in a rainbow of colors are doing the rounds of the market successfully. There are bindis with pearls, American diamonds, semi-precious stones and glitter adorned on them that can be made to order at special shops in many Indian cities. Most foreign visitors to the country pick up a few dozen packets of assorted bindis since they are an in expensive and beautiful token of Indian traditionalism packaged in a miniature presentation.

The bindi has long since digressed from a symbol of marital status to being worn by unmarried women and even young teenage girls today and is now an essential part of facial make-up, worn mainly as a fashion accessory.

Accessorizing with Bindi makeup: choosing a bindi
Most Indian women would pick a bindi to match the color of their dress and since the normal range of bindis are so affordable, it is within the beauty budget of most women.

. Make-up experts advise, however that a bindi should be chosen in accordance with not only the color of the dress in mind, but also the shape of the woman’s face.
. A crescent moon, round or large bindi is best suited to a thin face or one with sharply defined features. Those with a round face cut or heavy jaw line can give these shapes a miss since it will only draw more attention to the lack of angularity and play up the roundness of the face more.
. Summer time makeup is usually light-toned and a bindi must complement this while winter or evening make-up allows a woman to experiment with more elaborate bindis to dress up the face.
. Those with a small forehead can make it appear larger with an oblong bindi while a broad forehead looks good with a round bindi.
. A fair complexion is the ideal base for darker color bindis like deep maroon, red and dark pink while those with a darker skin tone can opt for lighter pink, orange or sandal wood base-color bindis.

. Draw the energy point out and lengthen your imaginary stick until you feel the burn.
. Pulse your finger up and down quickly for a count of 30.
