How to Pull Off Celebrity Bangs

Go Casual

A-listers like Jennifer Aniston and Katie Holmes aren’t the only ones who look great with bangs. Adding fringe around the face can help highlight favorite face features while hiding others, says Julien Farel, stylist and owner of a salon on Madison Avenue in New York. “Bangs are an accessory to soften the imperfections of the face,” explains Farel who has worked with Salma Hayek and Kate Moss. Still not sure if bangs will compliment your look? Maybe these stars will inspire you.

Bangs don’t need to be high maintenance. For an easy-to-wear look, take Jennifer Aniston’s lead and wear bangs with a glamorous-yet-messy ponytail, which compliments almost any face shape. Another reason to love it? There’s no blow dryer involved.

Busy Mom

Katie Holmes and daughter Suri love their easy-to-handle bobs. But keep in mind, this type of low-maintenance cut accentuates the cheeks, so if your face is round, opt for longer layers around the face.

Swept Aside

Longer side-swept bangs like Julia Roberts’ can help soften an angular face. Channel the pretty woman and gather hair into an effortless bun for a night out, or leave hair down for a more casual look.

Wispy and Girly

If you’re not ready to commit to bangs, Reese Witherspoon’s wispy option may be a good start. They are thin enough to be mixed into longer hair with a dollop of gel but help highlight the face if worn down.

Go Glam

Who says bangs must be worn down at all times? Pinned up bangs flatter those with a rounder face shape. Take a hint from Natalie Portman whose voluminous bangs highlight her features for the red carpet.

Comfortable Fringe

If you’re looking to accentuate the face, part bangs in the middle like Jessica Alba. Perfect for longer or oval face shapes, the fringe highlights favorite features but isn’t a distraction by getting too close to the eyes.
