The actress talks potluck dinners, character pieces and her new role as a superpsychic.

When Camilla Belle isn’t on set or jetting to Brazil (the 22-year-old movie starlet’s ancestral homeland), you can find her in the kitchen.

“I’m a huge foodie,” says Belle—who, in her Miu Miu sample sizes, is difficult to imagine as a huge anything. “I’m always cooking or trying new restaurants, or my friends and I will have potluck dinners.” Her favourite recipe? A zingy lemon-curd tart. And yes, that’s the juiciest secret she’ll share.

While the brunette beauty says she believes cooking is the way to a man’s heart, she won’t tell which man it is this week. (Twilight’s Robert Pattinson? A Jonas brother? Depends which gossip rag you read.)

“I’ve always been very private, my whole life,” says Belle, who was born in Los Angeles and lives there with her parents. “My friends always think I work in the secret service!”

That secrecy serves the actress well in her latest role: a rebel with an indeterminate
cause—and super-psychic powers—in Push, this month’s twisty spy thriller.

“She always keeps you guessing,” Belle says of her character, Kira, who escapes from a government-run brainwashing program and may hold the key to its undoing. She co-stars with Djimon Hounsou, Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans (“Such an amazing cast!”) in the paranormal adventure, in theatres now.

Next up: Belle wants to make more “small, independent character pieces,” like her 2005 breakout film, The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Rumour has it she’s due to star in Bruce Willis’s directorial debut, Three Stories of Joan, as well as the indie drama Lorelei alongside Helena Bonham Carter. A return to low-budget film sets? Good thing the girl can cook.
